ALEXANDER N. MAY
Studying how evolution and ecology can tackle the problems of the modern world, from the micro to the macro
ABOUT ME
I've always believed that human ingenuity can be inspired by nature. A scientist by training, my interests lie in applying my ecological and evolutionary skillset to work on the issues of our time: plastic waste, cancer, climate change, and scientific illiteracy.
EDUCATION
Bachelor's Degree of Science in Biology at McMaster University, Canada
Master's Degree of Science in Ecology and Evolution at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, The Netherlands
WORK
My work history has always involved themes of evolution and symbiosis: from legumes to fungi, from cancer to kombucha, from 3D printing to dinosaurs, I've had broad experience in many different fields.
GAMES
One of my passions is creating games that bridge the divide between art and science: they take place at the origin of life, inside a human body, a few centimeters beneath the soil, and in a research lab on a distant planet. All are themed around the concept of cooperation and symbiosis, and what happens when it succeeds or fails.
ART
In the process of developing my own games, I've learned how to create various types of digital art. I try to incorporate a bit of weirdness and humour into familiar themes of science and fantasy.
CV
My various achievements in list form.
